Why I became a Financial Advisor

Why I became a Financial Advisor

June 29, 2026

I firmly believe that everything happens for a reason – and if you know me, you’ve heard me say it a time or two.  I owe my Why I became a Financial Advisor, along with a heartfelt Thank You to Joyce Curtis!

In 2014, I sat down for what I thought would be a routine annual financial review with Joyce. At that time, I was contemplating a career change and had many of the questions that come with a major life transition: What should I do next? Could I afford a pay cut? What would my future look like?

As we talked through my concerns, Joyce asked a question that would ultimately change the course of my life: “Have you ever considered financial planning?”

My immediate answer was no. The exposure I had to Financial Planning at that time was as a client, and I assumed the profession was focused on sales and cold calling. Joyce quickly showed me that financial planning is something entirely different. It’s about helping people navigate life’s important decisions with education, guidance, and confidence.

After spending time learning more about the profession and shadowing Joyce and her team, I discovered something unexpected: I had found my calling.

What began as a job opportunity grew into a career I truly love. I started as an Assistant, progressed to Registered Assistant, earned my CFP ® designation, became a Financial Advisor, and today am proud to be a partner alongside Joyce. Our values, mission and goals are aligned in a way that not only supports our clients’ day-to-day but also helps achieve long-term growth.

Looking back, my routine review meeting was much more than a conversation about finances, as they always are – it was the moment I found where I belonged.

What I love most about this work is the opportunity to help people feel confident about their financial lives. Like Joyce, I believe Financial Planning should be rooted not only in knowledge and expertise, but also in relationships, trust, and genuine care for the people we serve. It is both a joy and a pleasure helping people of all ages make decisions, pursue their goals, and feel good about their financial future.
